Run and Touch the Sky has arrived!

It’s release day again! I can’t believe this is my tenth book! Thank you to everyone who’s been with me through this amazing journey, starting with THE SIGHT SEER back in 2013.

Run and Touch the Sky Cover

Today it’s all about RUN AND TOUCH THE SKY, a book that is very dear to me. As much as I struggled with this book, I’m proud with the end result, and I hope you enjoy it, too!

Purchase the ebook on Amazon! (Print coming soon!)

Again, this is a novella, which means it’s not part of the main story which features Irina as the narrator, but this book, like BY THE MORNING LIGHT, is very, very important to the Smoke and Mirrors series. In fact, a character introduced in RATTS (like that abbreviation?) is probably the most important character in the whole series (well, Irina is pretty important, too 😉 )! You can read this one on its own, but I strongly suggest reading the story in the order they were released:

  1. The Fading Dusk
  2. The Burning Chaos
  3. By the Morning Light
  4. The Whispering Echoes
  5. Run and Touch the Sky
  6. ???????????? (coming 2018!)

Yes, this is the penultimate book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. It’s almost over! But until then, I hope you enjoy Nerine’s story and RUN AND TOUCH THE SKY.

Cover Reveal: The Burning Chaos

I’m so, so excited to share the cover of The Burning Chaos! In fact, I was supposed to do the reveal in May, but once I saw it I knew I couldn’t wait any longer!

And I’m not going to be mean and tease you and make you scroll down and down and down…

The Burning Chaos_Final-high

Isn’t it BEAUTIFUL?!?! When I first saw it, I screamed. How could I not?! I asked Regina Wamba of Mae I Designs for fire AND snow and to give it a darker feel since this IS a dark book, and she totally nailed it. Why the fire? Why the snow? Why am I calling this a dark book? Well, you’re just going to have to read it, aren’t you?

I have another treat for you; the full wrap. Let me warn you, though, that the blurb contains spoilers for The Fading Dusk, so if you haven’t read the first book yet, don’t read the blurb! But you can still look at and admire the gorgeous wrap!

The Burning Chaos_Final

Two months after Bantheir’s betrayal, Irina is learning how to live in a world where magic is not only real, but a part of her everyday life. As a spy for Parnaby, the shadowy president of the city of Dusk, Irina has to pretend Parnaby’s manipulation magic worked on her and she doesn’t remember his horrifying proclamation about Vernen. If her friend, brought back from the dead by an ancient source of magic, begins to show even a hint of magic, Parnaby will kill him without hesitation.

When a mysterious woman named Aeonia confronts Irina, she threatens to tell Parnaby everything Irina is hiding from him if Irina doesn’t steal a magical artifact from the president’s mansion. Knowing she’s the only one who can protect Vernen, Irina agrees to Aeonia’s demands, but she wonders if this ultimate betrayal will destroy her newfound happiness with Leonid—and get her killed in the process.

With elements of magic, mystery, and murder, The Burning Chaos takes readers on a dangerous journey through Dusk, introducing them to new characters and reuniting them with old favorites. Can Irina stay one step ahead of everyone and save Vernen? Or is she doomed to succumb to the magic she once loved but now despises?

*flails* I love everything about it. The deteriorating frame, the birds, Dusk in the background. It captures the essence of this book perfectly!

The Burning Chaos is out July 12th!

What’s that? You want to see all three books in the Smoke and Mirrors series together? I can do that!

Which one is your favorite? I don’t think I can choose; I love them all!

Title Reveals!

Last year I published THE FADING DUSK, the first book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. This year, as long as everything goes to plan, I will be publishing the next book and a novella. Today I’m happy to announce the titles for each one!

First off, the title for the second Smoke and Mirrors book is:

THE BURNING CHAOS

Do you like it? I’m going to wait to share the blurb when I do the cover reveal in May (as it contains spoilers for book one!), but I can tell you that this book features more magic, murder, and mystery as Irina’s adventure continues in the city of Dusk. Look for it in July, and add it to your Goodreads to-read list now! You can also visit my Pinterest board for some hints as to what the book is about!

Next up we have the novella’s title:

BY THE MORNING LIGHT

I’m not going to lie; I really love this title. It fits with the other Smoke and Mirrors titles, but at the same time it’s also slightly different. Which describes BY THE MORNING LIGHT perfectly. Set in the same world as the other books, this novella features a whole new cast of characters in an entirely different city. While this is a prequel story, I feel it’s best if it’s read after THE BURNING CHAOS (but you can read them in whichever order you like. Neither spoils the other!). Both THE BURNING CHAOS and BY THE MORNING LIGHT set up book three (which does have a title, but I’m going to keep that to myself for now!), which I will be drafting soon (can’t wait!). I’m about 90% sure BY THE MORNING LIGHT will be out in September, but that could change. For now, you can find it on Goodreads! Also, don’t forget to check out its Pinterest board, which I’ve spent many hours staring at. I will definitely talk more about BY THE MORNING LIGHT in the upcoming months. It’s a story I wasn’t planning on writing, but one that I’m glad I did.

What do you think of the titles? I hope you’re as excited about these books as I am!

Ereader.

034 (Medium)I got a Kindle for my birthday! Now, I was one of those people who swore I’d stop reading before using an ereader, but my stance has changed in the last year or so. Basically, once I found out you could send your word documents to the ereader and read them on there, as opposed to wasting 230498324 pages of paper (not to mention ink!), I knew I had to get one. I printed out The Sight Seer–it’s A LOT of paper. I also printed out Novel Number 8, which is about 20,000 words less than Seer, but still, it’s a huge stack of pages (and yes, I did print on both sides of the paper!). I did not print out Novel Number 9 (I’m running out of room for all of this paper!), opting to instead read it over (and over, and over) on my computer. My poor eyes. Knowing I had many more novels to write and edit, I decided it was time to finally get a Kindle. And the first thing I read on it? The Sight Seer! I love being able to read on a device without straining my eyes! Eventually, I’ll upload Novel 9 and read that over, looking for typos and grammatical mistakes. And of course I’m going to fill it up with books and novellas!

Busy Times

I keep planning all these great posts to write, but there’s never any time to write them! I’ve been working on a few, small projects, but they’re enough to keep me occupied! Recently, I sent my agent Novel Number Nine, which she read and sent back with edits/suggestions. I got to write a new scene! Which, at first, I was a little nervous about (“What if I’ve forgotten how these characters speak/act?” I asked myself), but once I started writing, I realized there was nothing to worry about. I’m quite happy with the new scene, too. I also wrote a synopsis, which was ugh, not as much fun as I remembered. Did I once say I actually liked writing them? What was wrong with me? Finally, I’ve been working on a couple of outlines (and by couple I mean FOUR). Writing a few from scratch, tweaking others that were already written… I still haven’t figured out everything, but I’m sure it’ll come to me. Eventually.

I also want to write another entirely new book (or two *coughs*), but that’s nothing new. I always want to write *something*.

And of course I’ve been reading. Books, lots and lots books! I’m super psyched for Book Expo (one month away!), where I’ll come home with even more books!

The Perfectionist Problem.

Being a bit of a perfectionist, it’s impossible for me to send my beta an incomplete manuscript. Oh no, I need to have the whole thing written, edited, revised, and edited again before I can send it to her. And even then, if it’s not quite where I want it to be, I get all nervous, knowing she’s reading something that’s not, well, perfect.

Which is so ridiculous.

Take my current manuscript. Novel Number Nine. I wrote the first draft and then went back and proceeded to rewrite a huge chunk of it. There are still a few parts that I’m not completely happy with, but after writing some chapters two, three times, I knew I needed a fresh pair of eyes to look at it. She’s currently reading through it for the first time, letting me know which parts don’t work. Those parts are usually the ones I had problems with, and after emailing one another back and forth, I’m able to finally turn the scenes into what I want them to be. The whole process is actually a lot of fun, too!

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to write a chapter and pass it on to her just like that, without having the rest of the story written. Once a perfectionist, always a perfectionist. But at least I’m now able to pass along a flawed story without feeling (too) uneasy about it!

An update on the WIP.

Still working on the first draft of the WIP! I say still like I’ve been slaving away at this thing for months and months when, in fact, it’s only been forty-three days of consecutive writing (I’ve been keeping track). I was hoping to finish it last week, but after 17300 words, it wasn’t meant to be. I’m hoping it’ll be done in the next couple of days; the end is in sight, which is very exciting!

After I finish, I plan on letting it sit for awhile before I start revising. A few days of not staring at the computer screen until my eyes hurt will be nice, you know? I have a big pile of books to read, TV shows to watch (in addition to becoming hooked on The Big Bang Theory, I’m now watching Modern Family! And all of my regular favorites are starting their new seasons, yay!), and a bunch of fun events planned in the upcoming weeks. But I know throughout it all the revisions will be calling to me, and I won’t be able to resist for too long!
