The Fading Dusk is here!

The Fading Dusk_Final_high

THE FADING DUSK IS HERE!

Introducing my brand new YA fantasy adventure! THE FADING DUSK is the first of four (I think? Still working on that!) books in the Smoke and Mirrors series. It’s something I wrote a few years ago, in between THE SIGHT SEER and THE SOUL HEALER. It’s very different from the Silver Moon Saga, but I love it just as much. I’m excited to finally share it with all of you, and I hope you will love it too!

The book is sooo pretty! First of all, there’s a map drawn by my good friend and amazing artist, Merritt. I’ve always wanted to publish a book with a map, and thanks to Merritt, this dream has come true! She also draw a lark (you’ll understand why there’s a lark when you read the book!) for the chapter art, which the amazing Nadege of Inkstain Interior incorporated into the chapter headers when she formatted the book. It’s really gorgeous, and I’m so thankful to these talented ladies. And let’s not forget Regina Wamba’s amazing cover! I really can’t wait to see the print version in person (as always, as soon as it becomes available, I’ll share the link here! It should be up next week.). I will probably end up petting it a lot.

Like I said, this is the first book in a series. You will be happy to know that there’s no cliffhanger of doom this time. I’m trying not to be an evil author with this series. And before anyone asks, I do not know when book two is coming out, but right now I’m aiming for the spring of 2016. But that can change, so don’t hold me to that!

Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in my newest book. I hope you enjoy it!

Cover Reveal: The Fading Dusk

Today is the day. The cover of THE FADING DUSK is here, and I’m so excited to share it with you!

The idea for THE FADING DUSK came from a conversation I was having with my dad. I don’t, unfortunately, remember what we were talking about, but the term “smoke and mirrors” came up. For some reason that made me picture a girl wandering the streets of a city (not a present day city, but like something from the Victorian era). Who was she? What was she doing there? That image of the girl in the city stayed with me through the entire first draft and beyond, and I’m absolutely thrilled that Regina Wamba of Mae I Designs captured it perfectly with this stunning cover!

Okay, enough talking. You’re probably not even reading this! Without further ado, I present to you the gorgeous cover of THE FADING DUSK!

The Fading Dusk_Final_high

What do you think?! Do you love it as much as I do??? Like I said, Regina nailed it. The buildings and the foggy atmosphere and that awesome frame and the birds (so important) and IRINA’S HAIR. Her hair is so perfect! I am absolutely in love with this cover!

Here’s the full wrap (the back is gorgeous too!):

The Fading Dusk_Final

In the gritty city of Dusk, seventeen-year-old Irina makes her living as the street magician Bantheir’s assistant. The job isn’t glamorous, but she loves the crowds, the shows, and most of all, the illusion of magic. But Irina’s world is shattered the night she is arrested and charged as Bantheir’s accomplice to murder—murder by magic.

Real magic, the kind that’s been forbidden since the old wars.

Irina finds the idea of flashy showman Bantheir using actual magic to kill someone laughable, but she’s the only one who sees how ridiculous the claim is. But how can she convince everyone Bantheir is innocent when they’ve already made up their minds? Desperate, Irina must decide who she can trust to help her win her freedom. Is the surly, handsome Captain Leonid telling the truth when he says he believes Irina is innocent, or is he just using her to get to Bantheir? What about Aden, the sweet soldier and longtime fan of Irina’s who claims he’s on her side?

Irina said she wanted to know the truth, but when she stumbles across a dark secret that changes everything, will she be strong enough to survive?

THE FADING DUSK is coming July 21st, 2015. That’s just two months from today! You can add it to your Goodreads to-read list, and check back here (or on my Twitter or Facebook) for links to buy it as we get closer to its release date. And don’t forget to look at the Pinterest board!

Tell me what you think!

A New Series!

So I’ve been sitting on some news and I wasn’t sure how to share it, so I’m just going to go ahead and blurt it out:

I’m releasing a new book later this year!

Everyone, I liked to introduce you to THE FADING DUSK, the first book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. It’s YA, it’s fantasy, and it has magic, action, romance, and, of course, a little bit of humor sprinkled in.

So, what’s THE FADING DUSK all about? Lucky for you, I have a blurb:

And for a visual aid, check out my Pinterest board! Not only are there photos of the characters, but you can also get a feel for the city of Dusk itself. Like the blurb says, Dusk is gritty, but it also has parts to it that are beautiful and mysterious. I’m really, really excited to introduce you all to this world. And the characters! I cannot wait for you to meet Irina! She may not be as sassy as Gabi, but she’s definitely just as fierce.

It’s on Goodreads, so you can go ahead and add it to your to-read shelves! Right now it’s set to release in July, but that might change. Please be patient with me. There’s going to be a lot of fun things included inside the book (a map! Chapter artwork!) that will make the wait worthwhile, I promise. And yes, this is the first book in a series. I actually started the first draft of the sequel (which I’m calling Dusk2 for now) yesterday. I’m very excited to dive back into this world and continue Irina’s story.

So that’s my news! There will be a cover reveal in a couple of months and all that fun stuff, so make sure you keep an eye on this blog, my Twitter, and my Facebook page for any news regarding THE FADING DUSK!

Cover Reveal: A Promise of Magic

So as you all know from this post, A PROMISE OF MAGIC is coming out NEXT WEEK. This means things are moving along very quickly now and it’s time for a cover reveal!

But should I post the blurb first? I don’t know. You guys probably don’t even read anything that comes before the cover. Am I right? Are you even reading this? Hello?

Okay, fine, I’ll share the cover first, and then the blurb. Without further ado, I present to you the gorgeous cover of A PROMISE OF MAGIC:

MELISSA2 (Medium)

How beautiful is this cover? I’m absolutely in love with it, as I’m sure the rest–

Evan: HEY. Wait a second here!

Evan?!? Where did you come from?

Evan: Sweetheart, I’ve been here the entire time. Watching and waiting for the cover of MY book to be shared. But what the heck is this?! Why is GABI on the cover and not me?

Gabi: Duh, I’m the main character.

Evan: You’re the main character of the other books, but not this one. A PROMISE OF MAGIC is MY story. Just read the blurb!

Oh, right. The blurb I was about to share until you rudely decided to hijack my blog…

As a child growing up in California, Evan Underwood only has a basic knowledge of Silver Moon, the organization that keeps the world safe from demons. After accidentally setting his parents’ house on fire with magic, he’s sent to the New York Silver Moon HQ to learn how to control his powers. Frustrated by his teacher’s refusal to show him anything beyond magical theory, Evan decides it’s time to take matters into his own hands. But teaching himself magic isn’t as easy as Evan imagined, and it’s during one of these practice sessions that he’s discovered by Alexandra Chen, a strange girl Evan finds both frustrating and alluring. Making a promise to show Alex magic, Evan is determined to live up to her expectations, even if it means breaking a few rules in the process. But when things backfire, Evan must rely on his friends to help free him from the clutches of a new, sinister character.

A Promise of Magic spans the course of eight years, and readers will delight in the appearances of old friends and new characters as Evan navigates his life through the busy streets of New York. With two bonus stories that set up The Shadow Stealer, the final book in the series, Silver Moon Saga fans are in for a real treat.

Evan: SEE?! Gabi’s name isn’t even mentioned in the blurb! I’m the star, so where’s the cover featuring my gorgeous face?!

I did make you this one yesterday:

promisefakecoverEvan: Okay, let’s use that one.

Gabi: NO WAY. I don’t care if the majority of the book is about you, my face is still going on the cover! You owe me, Evan!

Evan: Owe you? Why the heck would I owe you?

Gabi: *throws a copy of THE SOUL HEALER at Evan*

Evan: Oh. Right. Maybe I do owe you.

Gabi: *beams*

Is everything squared away, you two? Can I have my blog back now?

Evan: Yeah, yeah, fine. Whatever. Let Gabi have her covers. We all know the real reason why I’m not on it.

Gabi: I’m almost afraid to ask.

Evan: I’m too hot, of course. Girls and boys alike would faint if they feasted their eyes on my beautiful face for too long. It would cause a worldwide panic!

Gabi: Sure, that’s exactly why. Keep telling yourself that.

Evan: It’s true!

AHEM. *pushes them out of here* Sorry about that. I hope you enjoyed today’s cover reveal, and remember, only ELEVEN more days until A PROMISE OF MAGIC!!

News! News! News!

In case you didn’t see the title, I have news!

So, you know how A PROMISE OF MAGIC, the second Silver Moon Saga novella, is scheduled for January 27th, 2015? I’m going to be honest with you. I was never happy with that date. And I know you guys weren’t happy with that date, either. It was too far away, and also too close to THE SHADOW STEALER’S release date of February 27th. I always felt like there should be more time between releases, but I didn’t want to make you wait even longer for the final book, so I picked what I thought were the best possible dates.

A PROMISE OF MAGIC, like AN AUTUMN DREAM, consists of three stories. In addition to the titular story (which is told from Evan’s POV), there’s also THE FAVOR (told from Philip’s POV) and AN UNBEATABLE TEAM (told from Gabi’s POV). Unlike the final book in the series, these short stories were easy (and fun!) to write. The manuscript has been beta-read, edited, and revised, and it’s been sitting on my computer for the past few months ready to go. Waiting, and waiting, and waiting… Just like you all have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting…

So the other day I decided to ask my awesome publisher a question:

Me: Okay, you can totally say no because I know this is a crazy question, but is there any possible way we can publish my novella earlier? FEEL FREE TO SAY NO.

Her: Yeah, that’s totally cool.

Me: O________O!!!

SO GUESS WHAT?! The new publication date for A PROMISE OF MAGIC is now…. Drum roll please!

NOVEMBER 20TH, 2014!!!!!!!!!

Yes, November 20th. As in two weeks from yesterday. Or, THIRTEEN days away. No, I’m not freaking out. Why would I freak out? 😀 This is awesome news! You are getting more Silver Moon Saganess (yeah, I just made up a word) in less than two weeks!! Spread the word! Tell your friends! A PROMISE OF MAGIC is coming November 20th!! Get ready!!!
