Cover Reveal: Run and Touch the Sky

Here we are with another cover (and title!) reveal! This time it’s for the next book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. Without further ado, I present the cover for RUN AND TOUCH THE SKY.

Run and Touch the Sky Cover

I love it. The mountains! The sky! The colors! It’s gorgeous.

So you’re probably thinking a couple of things. First of all, it doesn’t match (title or image wise) THE FADING DUSK, THE BURNING CHAOS, or THE WHISPERING ECHOES. And wait, what’s that, ANOTHER novella? Yes, yes, this is not the next (and final!) book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. Yes, you have to wait a bit longer to find out what happens next after the cliffhanger of THE WHISPERING ECHOES. Yes, I’m evil. I know.

Okay, look, I never intended on writing this one. I know, I know, I say this all the time, but it’s true! I was all set on writing the last book when two new characters appeared and I had to write about them. Once I started developing the characters, the setting, the story, I realized this was the missing piece of the puzzle I’d been looking for. Just like BY THE MORNING LIGHT, Irina’s story could not continue without telling the story of RUN AND TOUCH THE SKY first.

So, what’s it about? Here’s the blurb (warning for slight spoilers for the other books!):

In a world where magic is real and dragons are extinct, the people of Meradell are keepers of a great secret: Dragons live. Highly protective of these magnificent creatures who were prosecuted relentlessly during the old wars, the Meradellans promised two hundred years ago to never betray them. But even though the ancient beings live peacefully, the magic is dying, and no new dragons have hatched in nearly three hundred years.

At fifteen years old, Nerine is in awe—and just a touch envious—of her older sister’s bond with one of the majestic beasts. When her sister’s dragon—the last one to hatch in the mountains—might become a mother herself, Nerine wonders why her sister should have all the glory. Setting off with her best friend, Nerine climbs the mountains in hopes of glimpsing the hatchlings.

What she encounters there is nothing she imagined or expected, and a disastrous chain of events brings about both the worst and best moments of Nerine’s life. Now she must learn to heal her heart and look to the future if she hopes to save both the dragons and herself.

Featuring a new cast of characters, Run and Touch the Sky is the penultimate book in the Smoke and Mirrors series by author Melissa Giorgio.

BY THE MORNING LIGHT was Claudette’s story, and RUN AND TOUCH THE SKY is Nerine’s story. As you can see, this is a new city with a whole new cast of characters (well, with one familiar face). This story is directly tied to Irina and Claudette’s story and sets up the final book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. I love Nerine and the other characters in this book, but let me tell, this one was a hard one to write.

Oh, and don’t let the word “novella” fool you. This one is novel-sized. But no one is complaining about that, right?

Here’s the full wrap, which shows off more of the beautiful mountains:

What do you think? I hope you’re excited to read Nerine’s story! While it doesn’t have an official release date, I’m hoping to have it out by the end of the year. Stay tuned for details.

Everything You Need to Know About BY THE MORNING LIGHT

Hello lovelies! How are you doing? I know, I know, I’ve been pretty quiet over here, but that’s because I’ve been very busy working on the Smoke and Mirrors series. The series is now one book longer than I planned (and three books longer than I originally planned!) and I’m about to get started on the first draft of the second novella, but that’s not what this post is about.

Today is all about BY THE MORNING LIGHT.

By the Morning Light - Melissa Giorgio - eBook - S

The first novella in the Smoke and Mirrors series takes place in a different city with a completely different cast of characters. I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating: You can read this one without reading THE FADING DUSK or THE BURNING CHAOS. You can read it before them, or you can read it after them. You just need to read it before book three (which won’t be out until next year, so you have some time). I won’t say why, so you’ll just have to trust me. 😉

What’s that? You want to read it NOW? Well, I have a special treat for you! BY THE MORNING LIGHT has been posted to WattPad and you can start reading today! The whole novella is there, so you don’t have to worry about getting sucked into the story, only to discover only four chapters have been posted.

Despite this, I am still releasing it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble as both an ebook and paperback. You can preorder the ebook from Amazon. (Paperback and Barnes and Noble links to come!) What’s so special about this version? Well, it comes with an exclusive short story that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. I’m a little bias since it’s about one of my favorite characters, but I think you should read it. 😉

Too pretty!

I hope you enjoy BY THE MORNING LIGHT. This is the book I never planned to write and it holds a special place in my heart.

Happy reading!

Cover Reveal: By the Morning Light

It’s time to share the cover for the Smoke and Mirrors novella, BY THE MORNING LIGHT! Drum roll, please…

By the Morning Light - Melissa Giorgio - eBook - S.jpg

What do you think? I’m pretty much in love with this cover. It’s got a brightness to it that contrasts the gritty, darker feel of THE FADING DUSK’s cover. And see that crown of flowers? That’s important to the story. Huge thank you to Berto Designs for the cover!

So what’s BY THE MORNING LIGHT about? Lucky for you I have a blurb:

For Claudette and Emile Borde, living in the city of Ayres and working on their parents’ farm has never been enough. Influenced by stories of the past, in which magic was real and the dragons still lived, the siblings have always dreamed of leaving their city behind and embarking on their own adventures. But as squires training to become full-fledged knights, they must renounce magic, for it was magic that nearly tore the world apart during the old wars.

When the carnival comes to the city, Claudette meets Aeonia, and the two become fast friends. But Aeonia is no simple girl playing at fortune telling—she can wield magic, and it’s both breathtaking and volatile. Torn between upholding her duty as a squire and keeping a secret for her friend, Claudette must decide where her loyalties lie. Is this the adventure she’s always craved, or is she dooming her city and her loved ones by remaining silent?

Set in the same world as The Fading Dusk, By the Morning Light is a brand new adventure by author Melissa Giorgio that sets up the third book in the Smoke and Mirrors series.

Can I just say how much I enjoyed working on this story? First of all, I never planned on writing it, but my trip to Texas last September inspired it (and no, it has nothing to do with Texas itself, just some conversations I had with friends.). I spent a month wondering if I should write it, and, if I did, how could I incorporate it into this world I’ve already established? Would Irina ever meet Claudette? How? Would they get along? The more I thought about these questions, the more I realize I HAD to write this story. Of course that meant pretty much throwing out my outline for book three, but, having just finished the first draft of that book, I can safely say that I’m happy I did chuck that outline. I love Claudette. I love Emile. I love that this book can be read before or after THE FADING DUSK, and also before or after book two, THE BURNING CHAOS. I love that it helped me get a better feel for certain characters and the reasoning behind their actions. Have I used the word “love” enough yet?

BY THE MORNING LIGHT will be out in September. For now you can add it to your Goodreads shelves and visit the Pinterest board! And don’t forget to tell me what you think of the cover!

Title Reveals!

Last year I published THE FADING DUSK, the first book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. This year, as long as everything goes to plan, I will be publishing the next book and a novella. Today I’m happy to announce the titles for each one!

First off, the title for the second Smoke and Mirrors book is:

THE BURNING CHAOS

Do you like it? I’m going to wait to share the blurb when I do the cover reveal in May (as it contains spoilers for book one!), but I can tell you that this book features more magic, murder, and mystery as Irina’s adventure continues in the city of Dusk. Look for it in July, and add it to your Goodreads to-read list now! You can also visit my Pinterest board for some hints as to what the book is about!

Next up we have the novella’s title:

BY THE MORNING LIGHT

I’m not going to lie; I really love this title. It fits with the other Smoke and Mirrors titles, but at the same time it’s also slightly different. Which describes BY THE MORNING LIGHT perfectly. Set in the same world as the other books, this novella features a whole new cast of characters in an entirely different city. While this is a prequel story, I feel it’s best if it’s read after THE BURNING CHAOS (but you can read them in whichever order you like. Neither spoils the other!). Both THE BURNING CHAOS and BY THE MORNING LIGHT set up book three (which does have a title, but I’m going to keep that to myself for now!), which I will be drafting soon (can’t wait!). I’m about 90% sure BY THE MORNING LIGHT will be out in September, but that could change. For now, you can find it on Goodreads! Also, don’t forget to check out its Pinterest board, which I’ve spent many hours staring at. I will definitely talk more about BY THE MORNING LIGHT in the upcoming months. It’s a story I wasn’t planning on writing, but one that I’m glad I did.

What do you think of the titles? I hope you’re as excited about these books as I am!

No, I haven’t forgotten about this blog.

WHAT? AN UPDATE? HOW CAN THAT BE?!?!

Yes, I’m fully aware that I pretty much suck when it comes to updating this blog. This is what happens when I’m writing and editing. I tend to forget about things like my blog or my Facebook page. It’s bad but it’s also good because it means I’m busy!

So what have I been up to? Earlier this year I wrote the second book in the Smoke and Mirrors series (I really need to reveal the title of that soon!). It, sadly, was not perfect (not that I expected it to be, but that would have been nice!) and required a bit of editing/deleting/rewriting and all that fun stuff. I wrote the ending three times before I got it right, but guess what? I might go back and change it again! Why? One of the things I like to do to get to know new characters is write short stories from their POVs. In the Smoke and Mirrors series, I introduce new characters in book 2 and even MORE new characters in book 3 (which is still an outline at this point!). Sometimes it’s hard for me to throw a character in the middle of another character’s story (in this case, Irina’s story). I want to know who this other character is, but it’s hard to get inside of their head when I’m writing strictly from another character’s POV. So that’s why they get their own short stories (Phil’s story in A Promise of Magic is a perfect example of this. I wrote that story BEFORE I wrote The Soul Healer, even though it takes place AFTER that novel! It really helped me get a feel for both him and Kain, which is why I didn’t have any trouble writing them in The Soul Healer. I already knew, for example, that Phil was a picky eater and that Kain liked to say foolish things.). I decided in October to write a story from the POV of  a character that will make her first appearance in book 3. It started off as a little project, but now it’s evolved into this much bigger story that’s given me a ton of new ideas for book 3. The only problem is I now have to go back and tweak some things in book 2. I don’t think it’ll be too many changes, though! It’s just a lot of work during the craziest time of the year. I’m hoping once things calm down in January I’ll be able to wrap everything up and polish the short story so it’s ready to be shared soon after I publish book 2. And then I’ll get to work on book 3, which I actually cannot wait to start writing, all because I decided to write this short story.

So that’s where I am, writing wise. I’d been hoping to write two novels this year, but I’m happy with one novel and one short story (which will hopefully not be THAT long, but who knows with me). I can’t make any promises about no longer neglecting this blog and I want to thank everyone who’s still sticking around to read my random rambles. You’re awesome.

Also, The Fading Dusk went on a blog tour! If you’re interested in reading my interviews, some excerpts from the novel, and all the lovely reviews that were posted, then check out this link!
