The Whispering Echoes is here!

the-whispering-echoes-final-ebooklg

Today’s the day! Irina’s story continues in THE WHISPERING ECHOES, the third full length novel in the SMOKE AND MIRRORS series!

Purchase the ebook here! The paperback is coming soon. I’ll add links as soon as it’s available!

I’ve been pretty quiet about this book because I don’t want to spoil anything, especially for those of you that haven’t read the earlier books. But I can say that I enjoyed writing this one and as of right now, it’s probably my favorite in the series. It’s crazy how different this book is from what I originally planned. And that’s mostly thanks to BY THE MORNING LIGHT. (Have you read that yet? If not, I strongly suggest reading it BEFORE you dive into THE WHISPERING ECHOES!) I love Claudette and Emile, and I’m so happy they were able to join Irina on her journey.

I really hope you enjoy this one!

Title Reveal for Book 3!

Hello! I have some exciting news today. It’s time to reveal the title of the third book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. Are you ready?

Book three will be called…

THE WHISPERING ECHOES

What do you think? I’m rather fond of this one, and I think it goes nicely with The Fading Dusk and The Burning Chaos.

So, I really can’t tell you much about the book. I’d share the blurb, but I need to finish writing it it’s full of spoilers. Here’s what I can say about The Whispering Echoes:

  • It starts off right where The Burning Chaos left off.
  • Claudette and Emile from By the Morning Light are indeed in this book.
  • You might need tissues…

You can go ahead and add The Whispering Echoes to your Goodreads to-read list. And, as always, there’s a Pinterest board!

The Whispering Echoes will be released in 2017! Stay tuned for an official book release date and a cover reveal!

It’s that time again… Release day! I’m especially excited about this one. BY THE MORNING LIGHT was the book I never expected to write, but I’m so glad I did. Everything You Need to Know About BY THE MORNING LIGHT

Hello lovelies! How are you doing? I know, I know, I’ve been pretty quiet over here, but that’s because I’ve been very busy working on the Smoke and Mirrors series. The series is now one book longer than I planned (and three books longer than I originally planned!) and I’m about to get started on the first draft of the second novella, but that’s not what this post is about.

Today is all about BY THE MORNING LIGHT.

By the Morning Light - Melissa Giorgio - eBook - S

The first novella in the Smoke and Mirrors series takes place in a different city with a completely different cast of characters. I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating: You can read this one without reading THE FADING DUSK or THE BURNING CHAOS. You can read it before them, or you can read it after them. You just need to read it before book three (which won’t be out until next year, so you have some time). I won’t say why, so you’ll just have to trust me. 😉

What’s that? You want to read it NOW? Well, I have a special treat for you! BY THE MORNING LIGHT has been posted to WattPad and you can start reading today! The whole novella is there, so you don’t have to worry about getting sucked into the story, only to discover only four chapters have been posted.

Despite this, I am still releasing it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble as both an ebook and paperback. You can preorder the ebook from Amazon. (Paperback and Barnes and Noble links to come!) What’s so special about this version? Well, it comes with an exclusive short story that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. I’m a little bias since it’s about one of my favorite characters, but I think you should read it. 😉

Also, check out the full cover wrap designed by Berto Designs

Too pretty!

I hope you enjoy BY THE MORNING LIGHT. This is the book I never planned to write and it holds a special place in my heart.

Happy reading!

The Burning Chaos is here!

The Burning Chaos_Final-high

I’m very happy to announce the ebook of THE BURNING CHAOS has arrived! You can get it at both Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The print will be following shortly and I’ll post again when I get those links!

Curious about the series, but haven’t read the first book yet? Well, you’re in luck because THE FADING DUSK is on sale for just 99 cents! You can also find it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Here’s a peek at the first page of the ebook. Don’t you love the dragon? It was illustrated by my talented friend Merritt!

Cover Reveal: The Burning Chaos

I’m so, so excited to share the cover of The Burning Chaos! In fact, I was supposed to do the reveal in May, but once I saw it I knew I couldn’t wait any longer!

And I’m not going to be mean and tease you and make you scroll down and down and down…

The Burning Chaos_Final-high

Isn’t it BEAUTIFUL?!?! When I first saw it, I screamed. How could I not?! I asked Regina Wamba of Mae I Designs for fire AND snow and to give it a darker feel since this IS a dark book, and she totally nailed it. Why the fire? Why the snow? Why am I calling this a dark book? Well, you’re just going to have to read it, aren’t you?

I have another treat for you; the full wrap. Let me warn you, though, that the blurb contains spoilers for The Fading Dusk, so if you haven’t read the first book yet, don’t read the blurb! But you can still look at and admire the gorgeous wrap!

The Burning Chaos_Final

Two months after Bantheir’s betrayal, Irina is learning how to live in a world where magic is not only real, but a part of her everyday life. As a spy for Parnaby, the shadowy president of the city of Dusk, Irina has to pretend Parnaby’s manipulation magic worked on her and she doesn’t remember his horrifying proclamation about Vernen. If her friend, brought back from the dead by an ancient source of magic, begins to show even a hint of magic, Parnaby will kill him without hesitation.

When a mysterious woman named Aeonia confronts Irina, she threatens to tell Parnaby everything Irina is hiding from him if Irina doesn’t steal a magical artifact from the president’s mansion. Knowing she’s the only one who can protect Vernen, Irina agrees to Aeonia’s demands, but she wonders if this ultimate betrayal will destroy her newfound happiness with Leonid—and get her killed in the process.

With elements of magic, mystery, and murder, The Burning Chaos takes readers on a dangerous journey through Dusk, introducing them to new characters and reuniting them with old favorites. Can Irina stay one step ahead of everyone and save Vernen? Or is she doomed to succumb to the magic she once loved but now despises?

*flails* I love everything about it. The deteriorating frame, the birds, Dusk in the background. It captures the essence of this book perfectly!

The Burning Chaos is out July 12th!

What’s that? You want to see all three books in the Smoke and Mirrors series together? I can do that!

Which one is your favorite? I don’t think I can choose; I love them all!

Nobody’s Lady is here!

Nobody's Lady Smaller

Nobody’s Lady, the second book in the Never Veil trilogy, is here! The second book in Amy McNulty’s series picks up right where the first one left off, answering all of your burning questions! I really loved this one. It was interesting seeing how the villagers act now that the curse on their village has been broken. For some of them, it’s like meeting entirely new characters altogether! Impossible to put down, you’ll find yourself racing through the pages. But watch out for that ending…

You can find the ebook of Nobody’s Lady on Amazon! (And you can also preorder the paperback!) And if you’re completely new to the Never Veil world, now is the perfect time to buy the ebook of Nobody’s Goddess, as it’s on sale for 99 cents!

Happy Reading!

Fun Fact: I helped come up with the title for this book (and book three, Nobody’s Pawn!). 🙂

Cover Reveal: By the Morning Light

It’s time to share the cover for the Smoke and Mirrors novella, BY THE MORNING LIGHT! Drum roll, please…

By the Morning Light - Melissa Giorgio - eBook - S.jpg

What do you think? I’m pretty much in love with this cover. It’s got a brightness to it that contrasts the gritty, darker feel of THE FADING DUSK’s cover. And see that crown of flowers? That’s important to the story. Huge thank you to Berto Designs for the cover!

So what’s BY THE MORNING LIGHT about? Lucky for you I have a blurb:

For Claudette and Emile Borde, living in the city of Ayres and working on their parents’ farm has never been enough. Influenced by stories of the past, in which magic was real and the dragons still lived, the siblings have always dreamed of leaving their city behind and embarking on their own adventures. But as squires training to become full-fledged knights, they must renounce magic, for it was magic that nearly tore the world apart during the old wars.

When the carnival comes to the city, Claudette meets Aeonia, and the two become fast friends. But Aeonia is no simple girl playing at fortune telling—she can wield magic, and it’s both breathtaking and volatile. Torn between upholding her duty as a squire and keeping a secret for her friend, Claudette must decide where her loyalties lie. Is this the adventure she’s always craved, or is she dooming her city and her loved ones by remaining silent?

Set in the same world as The Fading Dusk, By the Morning Light is a brand new adventure by author Melissa Giorgio that sets up the third book in the Smoke and Mirrors series.

Can I just say how much I enjoyed working on this story? First of all, I never planned on writing it, but my trip to Texas last September inspired it (and no, it has nothing to do with Texas itself, just some conversations I had with friends.). I spent a month wondering if I should write it, and, if I did, how could I incorporate it into this world I’ve already established? Would Irina ever meet Claudette? How? Would they get along? The more I thought about these questions, the more I realize I HAD to write this story. Of course that meant pretty much throwing out my outline for book three, but, having just finished the first draft of that book, I can safely say that I’m happy I did chuck that outline. I love Claudette. I love Emile. I love that this book can be read before or after THE FADING DUSK, and also before or after book two, THE BURNING CHAOS. I love that it helped me get a better feel for certain characters and the reasoning behind their actions. Have I used the word “love” enough yet?

BY THE MORNING LIGHT will be out in September. For now you can add it to your Goodreads shelves and visit the Pinterest board! And don’t forget to tell me what you think of the cover!

Title Reveals!

Last year I published THE FADING DUSK, the first book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. This year, as long as everything goes to plan, I will be publishing the next book and a novella. Today I’m happy to announce the titles for each one!

First off, the title for the second Smoke and Mirrors book is:

THE BURNING CHAOS

Do you like it? I’m going to wait to share the blurb when I do the cover reveal in May (as it contains spoilers for book one!), but I can tell you that this book features more magic, murder, and mystery as Irina’s adventure continues in the city of Dusk. Look for it in July, and add it to your Goodreads to-read list now! You can also visit my Pinterest board for some hints as to what the book is about!

Next up we have the novella’s title:

BY THE MORNING LIGHT

I’m not going to lie; I really love this title. It fits with the other Smoke and Mirrors titles, but at the same time it’s also slightly different. Which describes BY THE MORNING LIGHT perfectly. Set in the same world as the other books, this novella features a whole new cast of characters in an entirely different city. While this is a prequel story, I feel it’s best if it’s read after THE BURNING CHAOS (but you can read them in whichever order you like. Neither spoils the other!). Both THE BURNING CHAOS and BY THE MORNING LIGHT set up book three (which does have a title, but I’m going to keep that to myself for now!), which I will be drafting soon (can’t wait!). I’m about 90% sure BY THE MORNING LIGHT will be out in September, but that could change. For now, you can find it on Goodreads! Also, don’t forget to check out its Pinterest board, which I’ve spent many hours staring at. I will definitely talk more about BY THE MORNING LIGHT in the upcoming months. It’s a story I wasn’t planning on writing, but one that I’m glad I did.

What do you think of the titles? I hope you’re as excited about these books as I am!

Guest Post: Erin Latimer and FROST

Frost-Tour-Banner-pt-1

Today I’d like to welcome Erin Latimer to the blog! Erin’s book, FROST, released last week, and she’s here to discuss how mythology has inspired her writing.

greek

There’s something about mythology that really starts the ideas flowing. Maybe it’s the ability to build on top of this awesomely complex world that’s already been created. You know, sort of like fanfiction. But your source material is a heck of a lot older.

Maybe it’s because so much of it involves magic, and that’s always been what stokes the fires of my imagination. Magic is something that gives your story an “anything could happen” vibe, because really, nothing is off limits as long as it stays within the rules of that made up world.

I’ve enjoyed both writing and reading about Greek mythology (Percy Jackson, anyone?) as well as Egyptian and now…obviously, Norse.

For me there’s something special about Norse mythology. Maybe it’s the thought of the Vikings drinking and carousing and telling one another tales about Thor and Loki, passing stories down from one to the next. I’ve always had a soft spot for Vikings. Even if the real Vikings never wore awesome hats with horns on them. Yes, I know. That killed a little piece of my soul when I learned that, but think of how impractical that would be in the middle of war. Or just…y’know, getting through doorways.

Maybe Norse mythology is so great because people recognize a lot of the names now, (thanks Marvel) so you get people going, “Oh, right. Loki!” rather then, “Who’s this now?” and sometimes that’s a good thing. Of course, sometimes that’s a very annoying thing, since a lot of people seem to think anything you write to do with Loki or Thor is actual fanfiction. That’s another post for another time though.

It might be the fact that, in spite of the passing familiarity a mainstream audience may have, there’s so much left untouched, even by the comic books. It leaves you loads to work with and so many ideas to toss around. Greek mythology is sort of the meat and potatoes of mythologies. It’s great, and I love it, but it’s been done a lot. So when I started researching Norse, it was fresh and new and exciting.

And there’s no copyright on that stuff, it’s been around for too long. So you can play with it, build on it, mold it, command it to do your bidding. You’re a giant kid with a playdough castle and you’re the king, you can squish those little suckers into any shape you like.

Of course, keep in mind you’ll get feedback on your newly shaped creations. I’ve had people tell me I was ruining it. I’ve had yelly emails from staunch mythology enthusiasts who don’t want me on their playground. And that’s okay, because angry yelling over a piece of art is not a privilege, it’s a right. Once you fling your story out into the world it’s not really yours anymore. They do what they wish with it.

As for me, I’m going to keep using mythology for inspiration. I’m going to keep taking from it. I’m going to keep playing with it and changing it and yes, probably screwing it up.
