Title Reveals!

Last year I published THE FADING DUSK, the first book in the Smoke and Mirrors series. This year, as long as everything goes to plan, I will be publishing the next book and a novella. Today I’m happy to announce the titles for each one!

First off, the title for the second Smoke and Mirrors book is:

THE BURNING CHAOS

Do you like it? I’m going to wait to share the blurb when I do the cover reveal in May (as it contains spoilers for book one!), but I can tell you that this book features more magic, murder, and mystery as Irina’s adventure continues in the city of Dusk. Look for it in July, and add it to your Goodreads to-read list now! You can also visit my Pinterest board for some hints as to what the book is about!

Next up we have the novella’s title:

BY THE MORNING LIGHT

I’m not going to lie; I really love this title. It fits with the other Smoke and Mirrors titles, but at the same time it’s also slightly different. Which describes BY THE MORNING LIGHT perfectly. Set in the same world as the other books, this novella features a whole new cast of characters in an entirely different city. While this is a prequel story, I feel it’s best if it’s read after THE BURNING CHAOS (but you can read them in whichever order you like. Neither spoils the other!). Both THE BURNING CHAOS and BY THE MORNING LIGHT set up book three (which does have a title, but I’m going to keep that to myself for now!), which I will be drafting soon (can’t wait!). I’m about 90% sure BY THE MORNING LIGHT will be out in September, but that could change. For now, you can find it on Goodreads! Also, don’t forget to check out its Pinterest board, which I’ve spent many hours staring at. I will definitely talk more about BY THE MORNING LIGHT in the upcoming months. It’s a story I wasn’t planning on writing, but one that I’m glad I did.

What do you think of the titles? I hope you’re as excited about these books as I am!

Another month, another update!

Have you visited my Facebook page recently? I have a little contest involving the title of the second Silver Moon Saga novella happening right now. Each day I’m revealing a letter of the title, and the first person to unscramble them and guess the title wins a $5 Amazon gift card! Definitely check it out if you can.

I also have an Ask the Author feature on my Goodreads page! I’d love to answer your questions, so don’t be shy!

In writing news, I am just about done with the second novella, which is very exciting. Even more exciting is I read through THE SHADOW STEALER for the third time, made a few more changes, and sent it to my beta! This is a big deal. I’ve been working on this since November, was rather unhappy with it for awhile, but I’ve finally come to the point where I’m able to let it go. Of course this is not the end for it; I’m sure I’ll have to make some more changes, but I’m happy that I’ve taken one step closer to finishing it. Although finishing it means I’m done with the Silver Moon Saga, and I’m not quite ready for that…

I’ve also been trying to read more. Because I’ve been writing and editing so much, I haven’t had much time for books this year, but in July I was able to read a whole bunch! I hope to keep this up for the rest of the year; I still have piles of ARCs to get through!

The ebook of The Sight Seer is on sale for just 99¢! It’s this week only, so make sure you check it out today!

How is everyone doing? I hope your summer (or winter, depending on where you are!) is going well. I’ve been hard at work on the second Silver Moon Saga novella. I finished my major edits yesterday, which means I can get back to The Shadow Stealer. It’s been weeks (months?) since I last read it, so I’m a little nervous. There’s always a little voice asking, “What if it sucks?!” Well, what if it does? Then I’ll just fix it. And fix it. And fix it, until I turn it into something I’m proud of. That’s the beauty of writing; you can always change it.

Happy Monday!

Another month over.

So June is over. When did that happen? I was holed up in my writing cave and didn’t even notice the days flying by.

But I’m happy to say I finished writing the second Silver Moon Saga novella! Have I talked about the novella here? Maybe not. Let’s pretend I haven’t. The second novella was not something I planned on doing. I thought about it, yes, but I didn’t think I had enough material to fill a second novella. One story was written (I actually wrote it before I wrote The Soul Healer, and it’s about two characters who show up for the first time in that book! And the story takes place after The Soul Healer! Because that’s not weird and confusing at all.), and at the beginning of this year I had an idea for another story. But I was busy writing the final book, The Shadow Stealer, so I couldn’t work on that shiny new idea. Around that time I was convinced that yes, we needed a second novella, so I kept that idea in mind all these months. The more I thought about it, the more I realized it was going to be a heck of a lot longer than I originally anticipated. I decided to put it on hold once more and work on the third story for the novella, which is a short but sweet Gabi and Rafe story. With that finished, it was finally time to work on what I now refer to as Evan’s Not So Short Story.

Evan’s Not So Short Story (it does have a title, which is also going to be the title of the novella itself, but I’m keeping that a secret for the time being) is a prequel story, but it should be read after you read The Soul Healer. That sounds weird, but trust me, it works better that way. Originally I thought it would be maybe twenty pages long, but as the days went by, and the word count kept growing, I realized that wouldn’t be the case. It’s about the length of a novel now (add the other two stories, and yes, it’s definitely novel-length), and I regret nothing. I read it over this weekend and I love it immensely. I really can’t wait to share it with the world (January 27th!).

So that’s the novella. Three stories, two short, one humongous. It’s all written, and now I’m just working on edits. After that, it’s back to The Shadow Stealer! I haven’t read it since I heavily revised it, and I’m curious to see if my changes work or not. I’m actually going to make more changes based on things that came up in Evan’s Not So Short Story. It seems daunting right now, but I hope it’ll go smoothly. Final books are hard, you guys, but I’m going to work hard to give you the best possible ending!

June was all about writing, and July will be all about editing.

BEA 2014

Happy June! According to WordPress, this blog turned two. I can’t believe it’s been two years already!

I also can’t believe that another BEA has come and gone. Yep, for the third year in a row, I was over at the Javits Center surrounded by books and book lovers. I ended up with forty-eight new books (that’s the same amount I got last year!) that I can’t wait to read. Want to see what I got?

day1Day One-I thought my arms were going to break carrying all of this! (7 of these are signed)

day2Day Two-9 of these are signed!

day3Day Three-Just one signed this time

I’m excited because a lot of these are YA contemporary, which I’m definitely in the mood for right now! There’s something about the summer that makes me want to read contemporary novels. But what do I read first? Usually I pretty much grab whatever book catches my eye and go from there, but sometimes I have a hard time choosing! I’ve seen my friends make lists of what to read during which month, and I’m going to try that method out. I’ll let you know if that works for me! I hope to get through a large chunk of them this summer since I’m in a huge reading mood and haven’t had a chance to read much this year, but it all depends on how my writing and editing goes with the final two books in the Silver Moon Saga! Last week was spent writing the last story for the second novella, and after I finish that, it’s time for another read of the final book. I have my work cut out for me, but I hope to be done by the end of the month or early next month!

It’s always sad when BEA is over, since I pretty much spend the entire year looking forward to it. But after three days of trekking to the Javits center, dealing with crowds, and carrying bags stuffed with books, it was nice to come home and relax! Now I’m literally surrounded by books (my bookshelf is full, so I have piles on my desk and dresser) and it’s amazing. I love it.

By the way, I joined Instagram, so feel free to follow me to see more BEA pictures. And dessert. I like posting pictures of desserts!

I will probably be quiet again, especially with all the writing and editing I have planned, but I do make an effort to update both my Facebook author page and my Twitter on a daily basis.

And even more revisions.

So. Once again, I’ve been neglecting this poor blog. And I apologize for that, but I’ve been so busy with revisions and revisions and oh yeah, more revisions, that I haven’t had much time for anything else! But now I can happily say that I finished revising the second draft!

I’ve been working on THE SHADOW STEALER, the third book in the Silver Moon Saga, since November. I finished the first draft in February, took some time off, and then started revising. Unlike the last two books in the Silver Moon Saga, this one got ripped to shreds. Hey, it happens. I knew as I was writing it that I wasn’t happy with certain scenes, but I told myself to get to the end, and then work on fixing it. Which is what I did, and I’m glad I did it that way. I didn’t completely change every single page, but there were a lot of changes. I even cut 10,000 words in one shot. That did make me sad, but I knew none of those 10,000 words were important (there was a very cute scene that I hated to get rid of, but I made sure to replace it with an even cuter scene!). Despite all these changes, the word count only grew 5000 words, which is good, since this one is long. Very long. But it’s the final book in the series, and I wanted to make sure my characters and the story got a proper ending, which means more words. Hey, we all like long books, right? (Please say yes!)

So what comes next? While I wish I could send THE SHADOW STEALER to my beta, it’s not quite ready yet. I still want to read it over one more time to make sure my changes work. But because I’ve been focusing on this book since November, I want to spend some time away from it so it’s fresh when I reread it. In the meantime, I have a second novella to work on! I’m really excited to start working on a certain someone’s back story. I started it a few months ago, just as a random, fun exercise, and now I’m ready to add to it.

There is, of course, other things going on. May is a busy month with birthdays and vacation and BEA! I’m so excited for BEA. I’ll definitely post more about it as we get closer (maybe I can do a survival guide?). I’m also looking forward to the summer and WARM WEATHER. I can’t wait to sit outside and read! My to-read pile is obnoxiously huge; it’s time to get through some of these books!

Revisions and Releases

I never mentioned it on here, but back in February I finished the first draft of the third Silver Moon Saga novel! It took me over three months to write (it’s very long), so it was a relief to finally reach the end. After giving myself some time off, I started revising in the beginning of March. I have a few issues with parts of the story, so I’ve been ripping whole chapters out and completely rewriting them. The process is slow, but I’ve done this before with other novels, so I’m not too worried. After I finish, I’m going to reread it one more time before passing it on to my beta, just to make sure everything makes sense. I’m excited to see how the new additions work (or don’t work, which means even more revising)!

We are less than a month away from the release of The Soul Healer! I’ve been sharing snippets and fun Silver Moon facts over on my Facebook Page, so if you haven’t liked the page already, make sure you do that! I’ve also unlocked The Soul Healer Pinterest Board. See if you can figure out what’s going to happen in the second Silver Moon Saga book! You can drool over the pictures of desserts while you’re at it. And you can always find me on Twitter!

As you can see, between revisions and preparing for my upcoming release, I have my hands full! Hopefully that means you’ll forgive me for neglecting my poor blog? 🙂
